PHONES

Google Nexus 4

Google has now made the Nexus 4 a whole lot lighter on the pocket for potential buyers. The latest Nexus device is now selling at a $100 less from its earlier official price on Google’s online store. From what can be seen on the Google Play Store right now, the 8GB variant of the Nexus 4 is up for grabs for $199 (Rs 13,380 approx) while the 16GB model will set you back by $249 (Rs 16,750 approx).

The first reason is the considerable inter-player competition that the Android market has. Major smartphone players like Samsung and Sony, among others, have been launching a host of new smartphones into the market this year. And Google itself has released Play editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One. This culminates in the Nexus 4 no longer being the only smartphone in the market with a stock Android experience. Thus the company may be looking for different avenues for the Nexus 4, the first being this considerable price drop.

Google this week cut the price of the Nexus 4 smartphone to just $200, but because the sleek device is missing one key feature you may want to wait for the Nexus 5 unless you're looking to save some money. The $100 price cut brings the Nexus 4 in line with the iPhone 5 and many other top devices, but unlike the others, the Nexus 4 doesn't require a two-year service contract. There is no official word on a newer Nexus smartphone yet, though earlier reports have hinted at a possible Nexus 5 in the pipeline. While that is still speculation, there is a definite possibility of the current Nexus line-up getting a few updates. The reasons for this assumption are manifold.

Having no contract benefits consumers by leaving them free to walk away from carriers or upgrade their phones whenever they want. But the lack of contract isn't all there is to like with the Nexus 4.
The device, which is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile, came out late last year and quickly sold out online. The Nexus 4, which features a sleek design and one of the nicest screens on any phone, got great reviews, but there is one big hang-up: the Nexus 4 cannot connect to LTE networks.

LTE, or long-term evolution, is the name used for the fastest data networks currently available to consumers in the U.S.
Many parts of the country are still without LTE and some carriers are rolling out their LTE networks to major areas, but at this point, LTE has arrived and most top-of-the-line smartphones are equipped to connect to it. The iPhone 5, Galaxy S 4 and the HTC One are all capable of connecting to LTE networks.

Google has dropped the price of its flagship smartphone, the Nexus 4. The 8GB variant is now available for $199 (Rs. 13,400 approx.) and the 16GB variant is available for $249 (Rs. 16,800 approx.). There is no specific reason for the drop in price of the smartphone but we speculate that this is because Google will unveil the next Nexus soon, as early as October 2013. The new price is for a contract free brand new Nexus 4.

The drop in price of the Nexus 4 has happened in a bunch of markets including Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, Korea, and the UK. There is no information whether the smartphone will see a price drop in India but if it does happen, a lot of local smartphone makers will be in for some stiff competition. In India, the Nexus 4 is currently available for Rs. 25,990
